New House @ Mae Mut

The work on the house started in Oct 2021, the previous year some preparatory concrete works had been done and we started by adding to the foundations a little to accommodate a modified design, which was no longer based on container boxes.

The work was completed mostly by a team of two construction workers, with some occasional outside help.

We spent our first night in the house exactly four months after the guys arrived on site to begin the works. Below is a view from the terrace at the front.

UPDATE WINTER 2023. It is coming up to four years since the earthworks were started at Mae Mut, as usual I have no really good photos of what the place looked like before we started planting, but this pair of photos shows the same spot in the Summer 2020 and 2023 and gives at least some idea of the progress.

Some visitors came with a drone a few months ago and they were able to do a much better job than I ever have…

The site borders on national forest and benefits from a high level of water security, with a diversion canal from the local river running along the top of the property and two large lined storage ponds with approx 1500m3 combined capacity. There are about 100 fruit trees of various kinds and about 5000sqm of mixed forest planted by us with over 60 species of hardwood and medicinal trees.
